Jeff Gordon already seems resigned to making the Chase as a wild card this year, and a win this weekend would go a long way in helping out. Gordon, a 20/1 longshot in Bovada’s 2012 Sprint Cup Futures Odds, will try to pick up his first win at Dover since 2001 this weekend when the NASCAR circuit continues for the FedEx 400.

The challenging track that has a history of punishing mistakes, comes at the midpoint of the Chase season when drivers start pressing a little bit more to get inside the top 10.

“It’s a challenging race track and our team has always excelled at the tracks that are most challenging,” Gordon told NASCAR wire services. “We haven’t been as successful there recently, but I do think that certain team and driver combinations get on a roll at certain tracks. That was one that we really got on a roll.”

Gordon has four career wins here, but it’s been over 10 years since his last. If he has a good race, he could capture his 40th career top-10.

Gordon has 12/1 odds to win the race, according to Bovada’s FedEx 400 Betting Lines, tied with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne.

Kahne finally became a legitimate contender for a wildcard spot last week when he won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Carl Edwards, who currently holds the 10th spot in the points standings, has 33/4 odds.

The overall favorite to win the race, though, is Jimmie Johnson at 5/1, followed by Kyle Busche (7/1) and Greg Biffle (5/1).

Biffle, who is the lead pony in points standings, has won twice at Dover.
