Barack Obama has a pretty serious date coming up in November, and is hoping that he will be able to finish well after a grueling presidential campaign that is sure to come.

Apparently, he’s been taking notes from Tony Stewart. The 2011 Sprint Cup champion met with the president on April 17, and took praise for his chase for the cup.

“Smoke gave us one of the most dramatic finishes that we’ve ever seen,” Obama said.

Ok, so Obama was clearly keeping things light, and probably received some notes before the presser on what Stewart did, but anytime Obama, labeled as on of the most radical presidents of our time (true or not), meets with a NASCAR champion, its worth taking a listen.

Obama jokingly asked Stewart for advice on how to handle the media.

That cause a slew of twitter responses. Stewart-Haas Racing jabbed: “in line for a Cabinet position overseeing media relations.”

The twitter account also added: “Finally leaving D.C. Had to fill out some paperwork after we put national debt on Diners Club card.”

Obama also met with several other Sprint Cup drivers and talked about Stewart’s no. 14 car.

It’s not the first time Stewart, or other drivers, have met with the president. Jimmie Johnson did it last year to celebrate his victory, and Stewart met with George Bush in 2006.

The pair have accounted for nearly every Sprint Cup this decade. Stewart is a 9/2 favorite to win again, according to Bovada’s NASCAR Futures.

Johnson is an 11/2 favorite on Bovada, followed by Greg Biffle (15/2) and Carl Edwards (15/2)
